The world wasn’t ready for what Leon Edwards did to Kamaru Usman. Usman was considered to be one of the best UFC fighters of the time. However, Edwards rushed to the scene and made quick work of Usman. Not once, but twice. Currently, Edwards is reigning supreme as the undisputed welterweight champion. But for how long?

Welterweight fighter Colby Covington is making a return to the Octagon after two years. The fighter is hungry for a title shot, and it seems his time has come. However, since he has been spending so much time away from the UFC, a win over the welterweight champion might not be as easy. This is exactly what a UFC veteran had to say about the upcoming Covington vs. Edwards fight. But he also suggested an ending for Covington that he wouldn’t like much.

UFC 296’s main event is going to be a welterweight title bout between champion Leon Edwards and title contender Colby Covington. The two fighters have been going back and forth, and the time when they can actually back their talk is drawing to a close. UFC 296 will be held on December 17 in Las Vegas.
A UFC veteran, Matt Brown, who is a household name when it comes to the UFC welterweight division, has made a bold prediction for the upcoming fight between the two welterweight fighters. In an interview with The Fighter vs. The Writer, Matt Brown predicted an unfortunate fate for Colby Covington if he loses his fight against Leon Edwards.
“I have a hard time believing he’s going to continue fighting if he loses this fight, to be honest. He just doesn’t come across as that kind of guy to me.“, stated Brown blatantly. He then pointed out the basic difference between Covington and himself. Further trying to establish what urged him to make that statement. “He hasn’t fought for two years. He’s not built like me, where I love fighting, and if I lost 10 in a row, I’d still want to fight. He’s the kind of guy where I think he’s in there to get paid, get his money, stir up as much s*** as he can and get out. Nothing against that. I’m not saying that’s a wrong way to do it.“, he added.

The interesting angle here is that Colby Covington made a bold statement claiming that he would come after Conor McGregor after he defeated Leon Edwards. The big-money fight would be a great one. But it seems Brown isn’t convinced that Covington can make it that far. Leon Edwards is all ready to send Covington packing since he is not convinced that Covington should be his next fight.
Leon Edwards slams his title contender – Friction with Dana White?
Dana White wanted Colby Covington to get a title shot and had pushed for the fight long back. However, as the welterweight champion, Edwards had refused to fight Covington. Back in July, Edwards outright refused to fight Covington, upsetting relations with UFC CEO Dana White.

Now, a few months later, it seems that the fight will happen, regardless. And although Edwards has agreed to fight Covington, his opinion of him hasn’t changed a bit. In an interview with ESPNMMA, Edwards openly said that he doesn’t feel that Covington is worthy of the title shot since he has been away for two years and his last win was over Jorge Masvidal.

Regardless, the fight has been booked. The fact of the matter is that Aljamain Sterling had said similar things about Sean O’Malley, but O’Malley took the belt from him. Will history repeat itself? Or will Edwards retain his title and prove that everything he said about Covington was true?
