Falling on Her Back, Simone Biles Takes Safer Bet at World Artistic Gymnastics Championships 2023

Over the 3 days of women’s contentions at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships 2023, Simone Biles not only established herself but also exceptionally led the team. On the 5th of October, the US women’s gymnastics team climbed the podium for the 7th consecutive time at the World Championships with 167.729 points. Biles then leaping ahead toward the individual rounds, stood no behind.

Performing at the all-around, Biles claimed the 6th World title, equalling the record held by Kohei Uchimura. However, that isn’t all for the gymnast as she headed towards the apparatus finals on the 7th which included her qualification in the Vaults.

The gymnastics icon appeared for the Apparatus Finals at the 2023 Worlds on Saturday to claim back her vault titles. Simone, establishing her force, initially went on to perform the Yurchenko Double Pike; the most difficult of the vaults in the women’s apparatus. The move however is in the process of being named as Biles II after the 26-year-old filed for a submission and performed it with exceptional grace during the Team Finals. However, the results weren’t kinder for the gymnast.

Performing the Yurchenko Double Pike, Simone fell on her back while landing the skill. The incident unfortunately led Biles to make a quick decision to maintain her lead. Going in for round 2, the gymnast chose to lead with a Cheng.

Landing a perfect one on the Cheng, Simone scored 14.666, which was preceded by the Yurchenko Double Pike with 14.433. The total of the 2 performances landed Biles to 2nd place on the table with 14.549. Simone Biles is placed behind remarkable rival Rebecca Andrade with 14.750.
