Loving Griffin Hayes

Laying on his chest, listening to his heartbeat, I'm nearly asleep already.

"Good night sunshine," Griffin whispers against the top of my head.

Sunshine. He called me sunshine again. I want to ask him why he calls me that. I've never heard anyone be called sunshine before. It's like he made it up for me.

"Griffin?" I say softly.

"Mhm?" He hums back.

"How come you always call me sunshine?" I ask him.

I can feel his breathing change as if he's fallen asleep. I lay quietly for a few minutes, trying to decide if he really is asleep or just avoiding my question.

"It's what your name means." I hear him whisper to me after a few seconds.
