He recently revealed his discussion prior to the match and the moment after the victory in a recent interview.

Aside from the interview where he showed great respect for Federer, he also trash-talked the Swiss Maestro before the Laver Cup this year. As Federer arrived at the venue, he met Tiafoe, who smoked him while reminding him of the defeat last year. But in the current interview, he spoke highly of the former number 1.

For his final match, Federer decided to play doubles with his close friend, Rafael Nadal. The two faced Tiafoe and Sock, who defeated them in a great three-set battle. Now that the Laver Cup is about to commence, Tiafoe revealed his thoughts before the match in an interview with the New York Times. He revealed pondering going easy on the pair with Sock, but they decided to go all out instead.

He said, “Me and Jack were joking, should we go hard, should we not, should we make it a good show? I’m glad we went out there and played hard. The result was so irrelevant. Tennis won that night.”

After their match concluded, Tiafoe said some words to Federer, which he revealed in the interview. To the Swiss Maestro, he said, “Thank you for the last 20-plus years. Thank you, not only for your on-court play but for who you are as an individual. What you’ve done will never die.”

While Tiafoe showed great respect to Federer in the current interview, he did not hold back with the trash talk this year.

The former number 1 is one of the founders of the Laver Cup and returned as an attendee this year. He met with Tiafoe and Patrick McEnroe. The American player wasted no time as he went straight to smack-talking with Federer. He said, “Last time I was on this court, you had a lot of tears on this court“. Federer, not used to trash-talking, simply mentioned the bench where he cried.
